Best Casinos in America: 10 Casino Resorts Worth the Trip

If you’d like to warm up at home first, seven states license real-money online casinos: Connecticut, Delaware, Michigan, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island and West Virginia. Maine made it eight on paper when its law took effect on July 29, 2026, but its rules were still out for public comment until October 30, 2026, so no Maine site is live yet. Nevada, home of the Strip, has no legal online casino at all. Our guide to US gambling laws explains the split.

The three brands below hold the widest footprint, live in five of the seven states each. You have to be 21 and physically inside a legal state to play, and bonuses change too often to quote, so check the current offer on the operator’s own site.

DraftKings

DraftKings runs its online casino in Connecticut, Michigan, New Jersey, Pennsylvania and West Virginia, according to its own 2025 annual report. In Connecticut it’s the online partner of the Mashantucket Pequot, the tribe behind Foxwoods, and in New Jersey the DGE lists it under Resorts Casino Hotel.

It’s the one I’d start with if you already bet on sports, because Pennsylvania’s regulator lists a combined DraftKings Sportsbook & Casino app, and the company runs the Golden Nugget online casino as well.

FanDuel

FanDuel is the Flutter Entertainment brand, and Flutter’s annual report lists its online casino in Connecticut, Michigan, New Jersey, Pennsylvania and West Virginia. In Connecticut it launched in 2021 as the online partner of the Mohegan Tribe, and in New Jersey it runs through Golden Nugget Atlantic City.

Pennsylvania’s regulator lists a separate FanDuel Casino app next to the sportsbook app, which I like if you want to keep your Slots and your football bets apart. There, it runs under Valley Forge Casino Resort.

BetRivers

BetRivers is the Rush Street Interactive brand, and it’s the only one of the three with a foothold in Delaware. Rush Street’s annual report lists online casino in Delaware, Michigan, New Jersey, Pennsylvania and West Virginia, with the Delaware license granted by the state lottery office.

In Pennsylvania it runs for Rivers Casino Philadelphia, and I’d pick it if you live near the Delaware line, since the Delaware Park and Harrington sites run on the same BetRivers app.

Here’s our list of the best casinos in America, compared on the numbers that matter when you’re choosing where to spend a night or a weekend. Counts come from the operator, a state regulator or a company filing, read in September 2026.

How I Picked These 10

I started with the resorts that are worth a flight on their own, then checked three things. The gaming floor had to be big enough to matter, there had to be a hotel and a show for when the chips run out, and it had to be open to visitors from anywhere in the country. I spread the list across six states on purpose, because the best night out for someone in Dallas isn’t the best night out for someone in Boston. No casino paid to be here.

Of the best casinos in America on this list, three are on the Las Vegas Strip, four belong to tribal nations in Oklahoma and Connecticut, and one each comes from New Jersey, Florida and California. If you’re new to the games, our casino games explained page covers the basics before you sit down.

The Bellagio is the best casino in America if you only get one night, and it has been since it opened on October 15, 1998 at 3600 Las Vegas Boulevard South. MGM Resorts runs it, while the building belongs to a landlord, Bellagio REIT Venture.

The Nevada Gaming Control Board counted 1,366 slot machines, 165 Table Games and 52 Poker tables here at June 30, 2026, and MGM’s fact sheet adds a BetMGM Sportsbook of 5,600 square feet. Club Privé, the high-limit room, has 13 tables, and the games run from Blackjack and Baccarat to Ultimate Texas Hold’em and Mississippi Stud.

Fountains, Rooms and the Show

The hotel has 3,933 rooms, 510 of them suites. The free fountain show uses more than 1,200 fountains on a lake of over 8.5 acres, and after 8 p.m. it runs every 15 minutes until midnight. The Conservatory is free and open 24 hours, and “O” by Cirque du Soleil plays a 1,808-seat theater. I’d book dinner with a fountain view, play an hour of Blackjack in the main room and then walk through the Conservatory at 2 a.m., when the crowds have gone and you have the flowers and the glass ceiling more or less to yourself.

WinStar World Casino and Resort in Thackerville, Oklahoma calls itself the World’s Biggest Casino, and by gaming floor it’s the biggest in America. The Chickasaw Nation owns and runs it at 777 Casino Ave., just north of the Texas line on I-35, about an hour north of Dallas-Fort Worth.

The floor covers nearly 400,000 square feet, split into nine city-themed gaming plazas with over 10,000 electronic games and nearly 100 Table Games, plus a Baccarat Salon. It’s open 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. The 55-table Poker room was on WinStar’s temporarily closed list when I checked, along with Bingo and off-track betting, so call ahead if cards are the reason you’re driving up.

Where to Stay

There are nearly 1,700 rooms across four hotel towers, the Inn at WinStar adds over 100 more, and Lucas Oil Live seats 6,500 for concerts. There are two championship 18-hole golf courses as well. You only need to be 18 to gamble here, and smoking is allowed on most of the floor, with the Rome Gaming Plaza kept non-smoking. I would come for a long weekend, because you will not walk all nine plazas in one night, and the golf, the shows and the 20-odd restaurants deserve a morning of their own before you head back down I-35 to Texas.

Foxwoods Resort Casino in Mashantucket, Connecticut is the Mashantucket Pequot Tribal Nation’s resort, and it bills itself as the largest resort casino in the Northeast. The tribe’s Bingo hall opened on July 5, 1986 and the casino followed in 1992, and the resort has grown around it for more than three decades since.

You’ll find over 3,200 slot machines across four casino floors, running 24/7, and 175 Table Games in 22 variations. The new 33-table Poker room opened inside The Fox Tower on September 9, 2025, and there’s a two-story DraftKings Sportsbook of over 12,000 square feet by the Great Cedar Casino. The High Stakes Bingo Hall seats more than 2,200.

Where to Stay

There are more than 1,900 hotel rooms in three towers, the 14-story Grand Pequot, the 317-room Great Cedar and The Fox Tower. Foxwoods is a non-smoking property with outdoor smoking areas, and you need to be 21 for Slots and tables but only 18 for Bingo. It’s about 41 miles from T.F. Green Airport in Providence. Join Foxwoods Rewards on your first visit, because it’s free, your play counts from day one and the points you pile up on a Saturday night at the tables can go straight back into a room or a meal the next time you drive down.

Mohegan Sun in Uncasville, Connecticut opened on October 12, 1996, and it’s celebrating its 30th birthday in October 2026. The Mohegan Tribe created it, and the Mohegan Tribal Gaming Authority, which now trades as Mohegan, owns it at 1 Mohegan Sun Boulevard.

There’s more than 300,000 square feet of gaming across two casinos, the 180,000 square foot Casino of the Earth and the Casino of the Sky, with nearly 4,000 Slots and over 300 Table Games. The 33-table Poker room runs from 9 a.m. to 4 a.m., and the FanDuel Sportsbook in the Casino of the Earth is open 24/7. The dome over the Casino of the Sky is, by Mohegan Sun’s account, the world’s largest indoor planetarium.

Shows, Rooms and Food

The two hotel towers hold 1,563 rooms, and the 34-story Sky Tower is the one you’ll see from miles away. Mohegan Sun Arena seats 10,000, there are over 45 restaurants, bars and lounges, and the Shops at Mohegan Sun cover 130,000 square feet. You must be 21 to gamble, and the casino is non-smoking. Foxwoods is the bigger resort, which is why it’s one place higher here, but Mohegan Sun has the bigger gaming floor and is the better night out in my book. The arena calendar is the first thing I’d check before booking, because a 10,000-seat show on a Saturday changes the whole feel of the place, and the queue at the cage and the wait for a Blackjack seat both grow with it.

Caesars Palace is the Strip’s great survivor, still the name people picture first. It opened on August 5, 1966 at 3570 Las Vegas Blvd South, and Caesars Entertainment runs it on a lease from VICI Properties, which has owned the real estate since October 2017.

The Nevada Gaming Control Board counted 180 Table Games, 1,400 slot machines and 19 Poker tables here at June 30, 2026, and Caesars says its Slots run from penny machines up to $500 ones. The Poker room is open 24/7 with live cash games and daily tournaments, and there’s a race and sports book. You must be 21 to gamble, as everywhere in Nevada.

Rooms, Food and Rewards

Caesars’ 2025 annual report puts the hotel at 3,980 rooms and suites, close to 500 of them suites, and there are 22 restaurants and 10 bars and lounges. The Colosseum is the resort’s concert venue. It’s also the flagship for Caesars Rewards, so if you ever play at a Caesars casino back home, the credits you’ve built can pay for a room here, and that’s the first thing I’d check before booking a trip, since a stack of unused credits from a casino two states away is the cheapest way I know to end up in a Caesars Palace suite.

Wynn Las Vegas is the Strip’s most polished casino, and the one I’d pick for a special occasion. It opened in April 2005 at 3131 Las Vegas Blvd., Encore joined it in December 2008, and unlike Bellagio and Caesars Palace, Wynn Resorts owns the ground it stands on.

The Nevada Gaming Control Board counted 255 Table Games, 1,600 slot machines and 49 Poker tables here at June 30, 2026, on 196,232 square feet of gaming space in its fiscal 2025 listing, and Wynn adds private gaming salons, a sky casino and a race and sports book. The Poker room is at Encore, and it hosts the WPT World Championship from November 27 to December 21, 2026. The casinos are open 24 hours, and you must be 21 to gamble.

Where to Stay

The two towers hold 4,748 rooms, suites and villas, and there are 35 places to eat and drink. Wynn Golf Club is an 18-hole Tom Fazio course right on the Strip, and there are two Forbes Five-Star spas. The loyalty program is Wynn Rewards. It costs more than its neighbors, but you get what you pay for here, and if the budget stretches to one special night in Las Vegas, this is where I would spend it, with the tables at Encore at night and a late round on the course the next morning.

Borgata Hotel Casino & Spa is Atlantic City’s biggest casino by machines and tables. MGM Resorts owns it through Marina District Development Company, it’s been open since July 2003 at Renaissance Pointe, and MGM leases the real estate from VICI Properties.

The New Jersey Division of Gaming Enforcement’s August 2026 report counts 2,520 slot machines, 157 Table Games and 62 Poker tables at Borgata, more than any of the other eight casinos in town. Hard Rock is next on Slots with 2,296. Borgata’s slot machines won $59,161,976 that month and its tables won $26,210,221, which tells you how busy the floor gets at the height of summer, and why I’d book a table-side dinner reservation well ahead of any Saturday night there in July or August.

Where to Stay

MGM’s 2025 annual report gives Borgata 2,727 hotel rooms, counting the MGM Tower. It’s also the land-based home of BetMGM’s New Jersey casino, which the DGE lists under Borgata’s license. You need to be 21 to gamble in New Jersey. I’d pick Borgata over the Boardwalk casinos if the tables are the point of the trip, because nobody else in Atlantic City deals as many.

Seminole Hard Rock Hotel & Casino Hollywood is the one you’ve seen from the air, because its 450-foot Guitar Hotel lights up the skyline north of Miami. The Seminole Tribe of Florida owns it, it’s the flagship of Hard Rock International, and the main resort opened on May 11, 2004.

The current floor has 2,500 slot machines, nearly 200 Table Games, including 10 Craps tables and 20 Roulette tables, and a 45-table Poker room, and it’s open 24 hours a day. You need to be 21 for Slots and tables but only 18 for Poker, and smoking is allowed, with a separate non-smoking Slots area.

Where to Stay

The $1.5 billion expansion opened in October 2019 and left the resort with 1,271 rooms, 638 in the Guitar Hotel, 168 in the Oasis Tower and 465 in the Hard Rock Hotel. Hard Rock Live holds 7,000 people, and with downtown Miami about 20 miles away, it’s an easy add-on to a beach week, because you can spend the day on the sand and still be at a Craps table by dinner without going anywhere near an airport. The loyalty program is Unity by Hard Rock, and you have to be 21 to join.

Pechanga Resort Casino in Temecula calls itself California’s biggest and best casino, and I won’t argue with the first half. The Pechanga Band of Indians owns and runs it at 45000 Pechanga Parkway. It opened in 2002 and added a $300 million expansion in 2018.

The floor covers 200,000 square feet with 5,500 slot machines and 152 Table Games, and the High Limit salon alone is 14,000 square feet. There is no live Poker room anymore, because Poker is dealt on dealerless Next-Gen digital tables that seat eight. The casino is open 24/7, and you must be 21 to gamble.

Where to Stay

The resort has 1,100 rooms and suites, 12 restaurants, a 1,200-seat theater and a 3,000-seat events center, and Journey at Pechanga is a par-72 course by Arthur Hills and Steve Forrest. The main casino is smoke-free, with smokers sent to a detached 300-slot room. For me it’s the best casino resort in the West outside Nevada, and the one I’d drive to for a weekend of golf in the morning, Table Games in the evening and a show at the theater in between.

Choctaw Casino & Resort Durant is the Choctaw Nation of Oklahoma’s flagship, at 4216 S. Hwy 69/75 in Durant, about an hour north of Dallas-Fort Worth. The tribe opened a Bingo hall here in 1987 and the casino resort in 2006, and the 21-story Sky Tower arrived in August 2021.

There are 7,400 slot machines and 100 Table Games, the Poker room in the Sky Casino has over 30 tables, and the whole place is open 24 hours a day. The Sky Casino and the Link Casino are smoke-free, and you only need to be 18 to play, though you must be 21 to drink.

Where to Stay

The AAA Four Diamond hotel has 1,700 rooms, 1,000 of them in the Sky Tower, and the Grand Theater seats 3,000. The loyalty program is Choctaw Rewards Club. If WinStar feels too big, Durant is the calmer Oklahoma pick, and it’s the one I’d choose for a quieter night at a good table, with a Sky Tower room upstairs and no need to get back in the car once the chips run out.

By gaming floor, the biggest casino in America is WinStar World Casino and Resort in Thackerville, Oklahoma, with nearly 400,000 square feet and over 10,000 electronic games, per WinStar. Mohegan Sun has more than 300,000 square feet, and Foxwoods calls itself the largest resort casino in the Northeast. None of the Strip casinos comes close on floor space. Wynn Las Vegas has 196,232 square feet and Bellagio 156,000 in the Nevada Gaming Control Board’s fiscal 2025 listing, and Caesars’ 2025 annual report gives Caesars Palace 124,500.

The Numbers You’ll See Elsewhere

A lot of casino lists repeat figures the operators don’t back up. You’ll see WinStar at 600,000 square feet when WinStar itself says nearly 400,000. Mohegan Sun turns up with 6,400 Slots and over 350 tables, against nearly 4,000 and 300-plus on its own pages, and one list gives it 364,000 square feet where Mohegan says more than 300,000.

But Foxwoods gets it worst. Lists still give it more than 4,500 Slots, 260 tables, a 114-table Poker room and 2,266 rooms, while Foxwoods lists over 3,200 Slots, 175 tables, a new 33-table Poker room and more than 1,900 rooms. Choctaw Durant is the rare one lists get roughly right, with over 7,000 Slots against the 7,400 Choctaw lists. Las Vegas

The Strip is still where America’s biggest casino names stand side by side, and that’s why Bellagio, Caesars Palace and Wynn make my list of the best casinos in America. Las Vegas had 38,545,700 visitors in 2025, down from 41,676,300 in 2024, per the Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority. Atlantic City

Atlantic City has nine casinos, and Borgata is the biggest by Slots and tables, per the DGE’s August 2026 report. Harrah’s has the largest licensed casino floor in town at 150,189 square feet. Connecticut, Pennsylvania and Michigan

Is There a Big Casino Near Washington, DC?

Yes. MGM National Harbor in Prince George’s County, Maryland has 2,259 Slots, 160 tables and 308 hotel rooms, per MGM’s 2025 annual report, and it’s the big casino resort for anyone living around the capital.

Walking into an American casino is easy, but the rules change at the state line, and sometimes at the tribal border. Nevada law says you must be 21 to play, wager or even loiter in a gaming area, and New Jersey and Connecticut set 21 too. Some tribal casinos let you in younger. WinStar and Choctaw Durant allow gambling at 18, and Seminole Hard Rock Hollywood lets 18-year-olds play Poker but not Slots.

What ID Do You Need, and When Are Casinos Open?

Bring a valid photo ID. WinStar’s house rules say you must show one on request, and Choctaw’s home page says ID verification is required. Most big casinos never close. WinStar, Choctaw, Pechanga and Seminole Hard Rock Hollywood all say they’re open 24 hours, and so are Wynn’s casinos, but Poker rooms keep their own hours, like 9 a.m. to 4 a.m. at Mohegan Sun.

Can You Smoke in an American Casino?

Sometimes, and it’s the rule that surprises people most. Nevada’s Clean Indoor Air Act doesn’t ban smoking on casino gaming floors, so expect it on the Strip. Foxwoods and Mohegan Sun are non-smoking, Pechanga keeps smokers in one detached room, and WinStar and Seminole Hard Rock Hollywood allow it with non-smoking areas set aside.

Loyalty Cards

Every casino here runs a players’ card: MGM Rewards at Bellagio, Caesars Rewards, Wynn Rewards, Foxwoods Rewards, Momentum at Mohegan Sun, Club Passport at WinStar, Unity by Hard Rock, Pechanga Rewards and Choctaw Rewards Club. Sign up before your first bet, so the play counts from the start.

Two systems run the casinos in America. Commercial casinos answer to their state. The Nevada Gaming Control Board, created in 1955, and the Nevada Gaming Commission regulate the Strip, and New Jersey’s Division of Gaming Enforcement licenses Atlantic City. Tribal casinos work under the Indian Gaming Regulatory Act, signed on October 17, 1988, and six of my ten picks are tribal resorts that run under it.

How Tribal Gaming Works

Under IGRA, a tribe and its state sign a tribal-state compact, the tribe’s own gaming commission regulates the floor, and the National Indian Gaming Commission, a federal agency in the Department of the Interior, oversees the system. WinStar’s disputes, for example, go to the Chickasaw Nation Office of the Gaming Commissioner, and in Oklahoma the state’s side of the compact is watched by OMES’s Gaming Compliance Unit. It’s big business, and the NIGC reported $46.2 billion in tribal gaming revenue for fiscal 2025, up 5.3% on the year before. For the full picture, read our guide to US gambling laws.

You can also self-exclude. New Jersey’s Division of Gaming Enforcement runs a Self Exclusion Program, Connecticut’s statewide list had almost 6,500 people on it in 2025, and Foxwoods processes property self-exclusion through the tribe’s gaming commission. The best tool is still the simplest one, though, and that’s deciding exactly what you’re willing to lose before you walk in, bringing that much in cash and leaving your bank cards back in the hotel room so that the night ends when the cash does.
