Licensing and Legal Compliance

MetaWin used to run on a Curacao license, but since mid-way through 2024, it has switched it’s operations to an Anjouan license. Anjouan licenses are becoming more common place (especially with crypto sites), while Curacao’s regulations are changing, which has a knock-on effect on KYC and AML requirements, ultimately impacting player privacy.

Player protections aren’t as strong in Anjouan, but you get the anonymity, instant transfers and the backing of a crypto friendly gaming authority. 

As it’s a full crypto casino with minimal KYC as a core value, you can sign up with an email address and a crypto wallet and start playing. There is no grand sign-up procedure, and the only real terms at the start are that you can’t use a VPN, you must be of legal age, and you can’t sign up as a company or play with another user’s account.

The site is covered by SSL version 2, with 128-bit encryption, and it’s fully built on the blockchain, which is inherently more secure than a server with no central point of failure. One hacker did find a way through MetaWin’s defenses in November 2024, though, exploiting a vulnerability in the platform’s ‘frictionless withdrawal system’ to take $4 million in ETH and SOL tokens from its hot wallets.

MetaWin covered all those losses, resumed withdrawals for 95% of its users, and the CEO put his Bugatti Chiron up as a reward for information that led to the hacker’s arrest. So, as responses go, that’s about as good as it gets.

The casino learned from those mistakes, shored up its defenses and there have been no further breaches.

Crypto gamblers who don’t want to hand over personal information love MetaWin and its library of more than 4000 games from top providers. The user experience is exceptional, and reviews on the games, site performance, and payouts are generally positive.

The negative reviews surround the lack of a welcome bonus, which is a selling point in other people’s eyes, Discord-based customer support that isn’t as fast as a Live Chat or phone number, and the fact that dormant accounts that are left for a year are subject to closure and seized funds.

General Terms

The terms and conditions are fairly standard, but as always, there are a few things that stand out. Considering MetaWin was hacked and replenished the lost funds, it’s a surprise to see a solid disclaimer that says it will not be held accountable for lost funds due to future attacks or technical failures. It’s a fairly standard disclaimer in the crypto casino space, and that’s not how MetaWin handled the last one, but it’s clearly at their discretion.

Withdrawal limits aren’t clearly stated, MetaWin withholds the right to implement KYC at any time, and inactive accounts can be frozen and the funds lost. In the event of a dispute, there is no clear resolution process with a third-party mediator. 

These are all worst-case scenarios and they don’t fit the ethos that MetaWin showed when it actually was hacked. So, the theory and practice look like different things. But the terms & conditions are there, and there are several instances that favor the house. 

As for the wagering terms, there is no big welcome bonus with a hidden trap of playthrough requirements, and the weekly 5% winback bonus only has a 1x wagering requirement.

It’s built on the Ethereum blockchain, so there’s a lot to be said for using the native token, but the casino is a multi-blockchain affair with bridges to Solana and Polygon and offers a wealth of payment options with the same flat fees for withdrawals.

The system has a series of checks and balances in place to prevent suspicious activity like balance swaps and VPN use, and the casino will freeze accounts if it suspects anything too nefarious.

Website Design & Navigation

The website was designed for the Web3 age and a younger audience that just won’t tolerate the stutters and lags of yesteryear. So, the site’s performance is razor sharp, and you can get more or less anywhere on the site with just one click. 

The menu on the left gives you instant access to specific table games, the live casino, or subsets of slots without going through multiple screens, and that is a slick feature. On the separate pages, filters and search tools help you narrow down your search and find the games you want without endless scrolling. 

There’s a lot going on with the homepage, with live updates up top and down below, and it takes some getting used to, but after a few minutes, you’ll be able to find your way around the lobby with no issues!

There is no separate app, but the browser-based version was designed to be mobile first from the off. There’s no ugly hackjob here to make it fit the small screen, and the menu interface is beautifully intuitive on a smaller touchscreen. Customer Support

Once you get used to the Discord server support mechanism, it all works pretty well. We’d prefer to see a Live Chat system and a phone support line, and it has to count as a negative that they’re not there, but the system does work in its own way—albeit slightly slow.

If you run into an issue then you head to Discord, open a ticket and wait for help. So, if you’re into Discord then it’s a familiar look and feel. If not, you might have to create an account and figure out another system just to ask a question. That’s not good honestly, but it does work in the end. 

There’s also a reasonably solid FAQ page, but if that doesn’t answer your question, and they often don’t, then you’ll need to come to terms with Discord.

As a crypto casino with an Anjouan license, MetaWin isn’t held to the same standards when it comes to a Responsible Gaming section, and it shows. You can set deposit limits, implement a cooling-off period, or go for self-exclusion, but it’s not as simple as just using on-site tools. Once again, you need to open a Discord ticket and deal with customer support. That might give a hardened gambler the chance to rethink and keep going, so we think there’s room for improvement here.
