How to Withdraw From Online Casino Sites: Steps, Times and Limits

A phone showing a green check mark beside a payment card, with two stacks of red and black casino chips on a green felt casino table

Learning how to withdraw from online casino sites is simple once you know the order. You verify your ID, open the cashier, pick a payout method you’ve already deposited with, enter an amount and confirm. The casino then reviews the request, which is the slow part, and your bank, e-wallet or crypto wallet does the rest in minutes or days.

  • How long it takes: Once a withdrawal is approved, crypto lands in minutes, a debit card takes up to 24 hours at DraftKings and PayPal takes up to 2 days.
  • Why it says pending: The casino hasn’t approved the request yet, and BetMGM says its own review can take up to five business days.
  • Fastest method: Crypto or an e-wallet you’ve already verified is quickest, and a small paper check is the slowest at up to 14 business days.
  • Minimum withdrawal: DraftKings starts at $1 for most methods and BetMGM at $20, while sweepstakes casinos ask for 50 to 100 Sweeps Coins before you can redeem a cash prize.
  • ID checks: Expect to prove who you are before your first withdrawal, so upload your documents the day you sign up.
  • Tax in the US: Winnings are taxable income, and the IRS reporting threshold that covers Form W-2G is $2,000 for 2026.

I’ve pulled the numbers on this page from the operators’ own help pages and terms, from the payment companies and from the regulators, because most advice on withdrawals quotes time ranges nobody can trace. If you only want the quickest sites, our list of fast withdrawal casinos ranks them, and the casino payment methods hub covers each method on its own page.

How to Withdraw From Online Casino Accounts in Six Steps

Withdrawing from an online casino takes six steps, and the first one, verifying your identity, is best done long before you need the money.

  1. Verify your account. Upload your ID and any proof of address the casino asks for as soon as you register. An unverified account is the most common reason a first withdrawal stalls.
  2. Check your withdrawable balance. The cashier shows your total balance and how much of it you can take out. If the two don’t match, a bonus is still tied up in wagering.
  3. Open the cashier and choose Withdraw. On most sites it’s a tab next to Deposit, inside your account menu or wallet.
  4. Pick a method you’ve deposited with. Casinos pay back to a method that’s already linked to your name. At BetMGM it has to be one you’ve deposited with in the last six months.
  5. Enter the amount and confirm. Stay above the minimum, which is $20 at BetMGM, and double-check the account or wallet details before you submit.
  6. Watch for the emails. DraftKings sends two, one when the withdrawal is created and another when it’s processed and sent, and its published times only start from the second.

What I Do Before I Cash Out

I treat the first withdrawal at any casino as a test. I verify my ID on day one, deposit with the method I want to be paid by, and I take a small amount out early so that any problem with documents or payment details shows up while there’s little at stake, and not later when a bigger win is sitting in the account waiting on a review I could have cleared weeks ago. It’s dull, but it works.

Timing matters too. PayPal says a transfer started after 7:00 PM ET, or on a weekend or holiday, can take an extra day to reach your bank, and casino payment teams keep office hours as well. I ask early in the week when I can. That’s all there is to how to withdraw from online casino apps too, because the cashier works the same way on a phone.

How Long Do Casino Withdrawals Take?

A casino withdrawal takes anywhere from a few minutes to about two weeks, because two separate clocks run one after the other. The casino’s review comes first, and the payment method only starts once that ends.

Timeline showing how to withdraw from online casino sites, from the casino review to the payment method
The two clocks behind every casino withdrawal: the review, then the payment method

The Casino’s Review Comes First

Most sites advertise the second clock and stay quiet about the first. BetMGM is one of the few that spells it out, and it says every withdrawal goes through an internal review that can take up to five business days before the payment method’s own time begins. Crown Coins puts its review at 24 to 72 hours, or up to 7 days when it’s busy or needs more verification.

The gap between the ad and the wait is old news to regulators. New Jersey’s Division of Gaming Enforcement wrote in 2021 that players had complained of waiting up to two weeks for their money after asking for it. That is why the method you choose only sets your best case, and why I’d look at how a casino describes its review before I looked at its list of payment logos.

Withdrawal Times by Payment Method

These are published figures for the time after approval. Most come from the withdrawal chart DraftKings gives its US players, which is the most complete one any operator we review puts in writing.

Method Time after approval Whose figure
Cash at a partner casino cage 1 hour DraftKings
Crypto Minutes, depending on the coin Shuffle says 90% of its withdrawals arrive in under one minute
Debit card Up to 24 hours DraftKings
Apple Pay 1 day DraftKings
PayPal Within 24 hours, or up to 2 days BetMGM, DraftKings
Venmo Up to 2 days DraftKings
Online banking Up to 2 business days DraftKings
Bank wire Up to 2 days DraftKings
Visa card 3 to 5 business days BetMGM
Cash App Pay Up to 2 days DraftKings
Interac 1 to 3 days DraftKings in Canada
Paper check over $100 Up to 5 business days, with tracking DraftKings
Paper check under $100 Up to 14 business days, no tracking DraftKings
Chart of casino withdrawal times by payment method after approval, from cash at the cage to a paper check
Published withdrawal times after approval, by payment method

An e-wallet adds a step if you want the cash in your bank. PayPal’s free standard transfer is quoted at 1 business day and can take up to 3 business days, while its instant transfer arrives in minutes for a 1.75% fee. Venmo charges the same 1.75%, with a minimum fee of $0.25 and a maximum of $25. Neteller charges a flat $10 for a bank transfer.

Card payouts have a ceiling set by the card network. Visa only lets a gambling site pay winnings to a card as an Original Credit Transaction, and a bank signed up to its Fast Funds service must make the money available within 30 minutes of approving the payout, or within 60 seconds for a domestic payout in the US. Other banks have 2 business days to post it, which is why the same debit card withdrawal can land in a minute at one bank and two days later at another.

Which Payment Method Is Fastest for Casino Withdrawals?

Crypto is the fastest because there’s no bank in the middle. The Bitcoin network adds a new block about every 10 minutes on average, and Ethereum creates one every twelve seconds, so once the casino releases the coins the wait is short. E-wallets come next. My own PayPal withdrawals have landed anywhere from 2 to 24 hours after approval, which matches what BetMGM promises.

Bank transfers aren’t as slow as their reputation. Nacha, the body behind the ACH network that US bank transfers move on, estimates that 80% of ACH payments settle in one banking day or less. The waiting you notice is mostly the casino’s review. If speed is all you care about, our guide to casinos that pay in under an hour lists the sites built for it.

Can You Withdraw to Apple Pay or Neteller?

Yes at some casinos, and the money goes to a debit card in your Apple Wallet. DraftKings and FanDuel each list Apple Pay as a way to withdraw in the US. At DraftKings you first need a successful debit card deposit made through Apple Pay, then you choose which card gets the withdrawal. It takes 1 day, the limit is $25,000 a time, and you need iOS 16.0 or later, or Safari if you’re on the web. Apple’s own developer tools carry a payment request built for this, which it describes as a withdrawal from an online account.

It isn’t universal. DraftKings says Apple Pay isn’t permitted in every jurisdiction and that some cards in an Apple Wallet aren’t eligible for withdrawals. That’s what happened to me the last time I funded an account that way. The option wasn’t there when I cashed out, so the money came back by bank transfer. Our Apple Pay casinos page covers the deposit side. Neteller is one of the quicker e-wallets at the casinos that offer it, and our Neteller casinos and PayPal casinos pages have the timings we recorded.

Casino Withdrawals by the Numbers

  • Up to 5 business days: BetMGM’s internal review, which runs before any payment method’s clock starts.
  • 10 business days: the deadline Michigan gives its online casinos to honor a withdrawal request.
  • 1 hour: cash collected at a partner casino cage, the fastest route on the DraftKings chart.
  • 14 business days: a paper check under $100 from DraftKings, the slowest route on the same chart.
  • 90% in under one minute: the share of crypto withdrawals Shuffle says reach the player’s wallet that fast.
  • 100 Sweeps Coins: the minimum balance Chumba Casino needs before it’ll process a cash redemption.
  • $2,000: the IRS reporting threshold for Form W-2G payments made in 2026.
  • 24%: the federal withholding rate on certain winnings of more than $5,000.

What Casinos Check Before They Pay You

Every licensed casino checks three things before it releases a withdrawal: who you are, where the money is going and whether a bonus is still attached to it. Getting those three right is most of knowing how to withdraw from online casino accounts without a delay.

Identity Checks

The first is KYC, short for know your customer, which is just the casino confirming you are who you say you are. BetMGM explains that regulators require casinos to verify who’s depositing and withdrawing, partly to protect players from identity theft and partly to stop money laundering. That means a photo ID, and often something that ties you to the bank account or card you’re using.

What you’re asked for depends on the market. Betway in South Africa wants both sides of a smart card ID or driver’s license, plus a bank statement no older than 3 months. Crown Coins may ask for phone verification, identity verification or a liveness check, which is a selfie you take with your device’s camera. South African players can follow our FICA documents guide for the full list.

The Same-Method Rule

Casinos pay you back the way you paid in. It’s an anti-fraud measure, and it’s why step four above matters. BetMGM only lets you cash out to a method you’ve deposited with in the last six months. Chumba Casino won’t redeem to another person’s account, and a payment method only becomes a redemption option there once you’ve used it for a purchase. So you cannot send winnings to a partner’s account, and a card that only works one way will push you to a bank transfer. I keep one method per casino for exactly this reason.

Bonus Wagering and Playthrough

Bonus money isn’t yours to withdraw until you’ve met the wagering requirement, and trying early can cost you the bonus and anything won with it. BetMGM’s own example is a $50 bonus at 10x, which means betting $500 first. Crypto and sweepstakes sites have lighter versions of the same idea. Roobet makes you wager at least 100% of a crypto deposit before you can withdraw it, Chumba’s Sweeps Coins have to be played before you can redeem them, and Stake.us wants bonus Stake Cash played through at least 3x.

The fix is to check the withdrawable figure in the cashier before you ask. I do it every time, because a withdrawal request made one bet short of the requirement is the kind of mistake that turns a good night into an argument with support about a bonus you had forgotten was even active. Our casino bonuses guide explains how wagering is counted.

Why Is My Casino Withdrawal Pending?

A pending casino withdrawal means the casino hasn’t approved the request yet, so no money has left your account and the payment method’s clock hasn’t started.

Flow diagram of a pending casino withdrawal and the checks that hold it up
What a casino checks while a withdrawal is pending

Pending is normal for a day or two. These are the usual reasons it lasts longer.

  • Unverified account: the casino is waiting on ID or proof of address, and nothing moves until you send it.
  • Bonus not cleared: wagering is still open, so part of the balance isn’t withdrawable yet.
  • Method mismatch: you’ve asked to be paid by a method, or to an account, that isn’t linked to your name.
  • Manual review: a large win or a first withdrawal gets looked at by a person and not cleared automatically.
  • Weekend or holiday: the request is waiting in a queue for the payments team.

Can You Cancel a Pending Withdrawal?

At many casinos you can, and the money goes straight back into your playable balance. That’s called a reverse withdrawal, and it’s the reason I don’t like long pending periods, because a balance that’s one click from the Slots is easy to lose. New Jersey’s regulator agrees. In a bulletin dated January 13, 2021, the Division of Gaming Enforcement barred operators from soliciting players to reverse a withdrawal, after players reported being offered bonus money to cancel.

You’re still allowed to cancel on your own. My advice is do not reverse a withdrawal. If a casino’s support team suggests it, that tells you plenty about the casino.

How Long Is Too Long for a Withdrawal to Be Pending?

Past the casino’s own stated review time, it’s fair to chase. Michigan is the clearest benchmark in the US. Its rules say an online casino must honor a withdrawal request within 10 business days, and it can only refuse if it believes in good faith that the player was involved in fraud or conduct that would break the state’s gaming law, in which case it has to tell the player about the investigation and send a written update every tenth business day until it’s done.

New Jersey sets no fixed deadline, but its regulator says players should get their money without any delay longer than an anti-fraud or anti-money laundering check needs. When I chase a payout I ask support one question. Is the withdrawal still under review, or has it already been sent to the payment provider?

Minimum and Maximum Casino Withdrawal Limits

Casino withdrawal limits start at $1 at DraftKings and $20 at BetMGM, Stake sets no maximum at all, and sweepstakes casinos count theirs in Sweeps Coins.

Casino Type Minimum Other limits
DraftKings US licensed $1 for most methods, $15 for a check $25,000 by debit card or Apple Pay, $60,000 by PayPal, $100,000 by online banking
BetMGM US licensed $20 Only to a method used to deposit in the last six months
Chumba Casino Sweepstakes 100 Sweeps Coins for cash, 10 for a gift card Only to an account in your own name
High 5 Casino Sweepstakes 100 Sweeps Coins for cash, 50 for a gift card One redemption per 48 hours
WOW Vegas Sweepstakes 50 Sweeps Coins for cash, 20 for a gift card Set per method in the cashier
Crown Coins Sweepstakes 50 redeemable Sweeps Coins Account must be fully verified
Stake Crypto Varies by coin No maximum withdrawal
Bet9ja Nigeria ₦1,000 ₦100 million maximum

A minimum matters more than it looks. If your balance is under it you cannot cash out at all, and small leftover balances tend to get played instead of withdrawn, which is one way a casino with a high minimum can end up holding more of its players’ money than one that lets you take out a small amount whenever you like. Check the minimum withdrawal before you deposit, and check it for the method you plan to use, because it’s set per method at most sites.

What Happens When You Withdraw a Big Win?

A large withdrawal gets more attention. Chumba Casino says payments over 10,000 Sweeps Coins may need extra processing time. BC.Game warns that a large or suspicious withdrawal can take 1 to 6 hours to audit, even though crypto normally clears in minutes. If a casino’s terms set a maximum per day or per week, a big win gets paid in stages, so read that line before you play for a jackpot.

Size changes the method too. At DraftKings a bank wire is only for withdrawals of $20,000 or more, and a paper check over $100 comes with tracking in up to 5 business days, while one under $100 takes up to 14 with none. I would have expected the small one to be the easy one.

How Withdrawals Work Where You Play

Casino withdrawals follow the same steps everywhere, but the methods, the paperwork and even the word for it change with the market you play in. So how to withdraw from online casino sites in Ontario is not quite how you’d do it in Lagos or New Jersey.

US Licensed Casinos

Real-money online casinos are only legal in a handful of states, and the sites licensed there pay out through PayPal, Venmo, online banking, debit cards, checks and cash at a partner casino’s cage. New Jersey, for example, makes its operators hold funds at least equal to their players’ deposits in a separate bank account, and that kind of protection is the main reason to stick to licensed sites. Our US gambling laws page lists which states allow what.

Sweepstakes Casinos Call It a Redemption

At a sweepstakes casino you don’t withdraw, you redeem Sweeps Coins for a cash prize or a gift card. At High 5 Casino one Sweeps Coin redeems for $1.00, and the steps are the same as above. Verify, meet the playthrough, hit the minimum and choose bank transfer or a gift card.

The reviews can be slower than at a licensed casino. Chumba Casino says its payments team approves a redemption within 1 to 2 business days, and that a cash prize then takes 5 to 10 business days to reach your bank, while a gift card takes up to 48 hours. Our Chumba Casino review and the sweepstakes casinos hub cover each brand’s rules.

Ontario

In Ontario, Interac is the method to look for in a regulated site’s cashier. DraftKings puts Interac withdrawals at 1 to 3 days on its Canadian chart and card withdrawals at under 24 hours, and FanDuel tells Ontario players they can withdraw winnings in as little as 2 hours. If a payout goes wrong, iGaming Ontario will review a dispute once you’ve tried to settle it with the operator. There’s more in our Ontario online casinos guide.

South Africa and Nigeria

Betway in South Africa pays by EFT to your bank and by cash-send options you collect at an ATM. It processes an FNB eWallet withdrawal immediately, although the money can take up to 24 hours to show, and its Absa CashSend option is free and doesn’t need an Absa account. Hollywoodbets won’t approve a first withdrawal until your FICA documents are approved. In Nigeria, Bet9ja pays bank withdrawals within 24 banking hours.

Crypto Casinos

A crypto withdrawal goes to a wallet address and can’t be recalled, so copy the address and choose the right network every time. Roobet needs 1 confirmation for Bitcoin and 3 for Ethereum, Tether or USDC before a payout counts as received. Bitcoin’s own documentation says there’s no guaranteed minimum or maximum delay for a confirmation, which is why the same withdrawal can take two minutes one day and forty the next.

Most crypto casinos are offshore sites, and many do not accept players from the US, the UK or Ontario. Check that a site is allowed to take players where you live before you deposit. Our instant withdrawal crypto casinos page compares the ones we’ve tested.

Do You Pay Tax on Casino Withdrawals?

In the US, gambling winnings are fully taxable, and the IRS says you must report all of them, including winnings that never appear on a Form W-2G.

A withdrawal doesn’t trigger the tax. The win does. What changes at certain sizes is the paperwork. For payments made in 2026 the IRS reporting threshold for certain gambling winnings, Form W-2G included, is $2,000, and it’ll be adjusted for inflation each year after that. A casino that has to file the form will ask for your Social Security number, and that request can hold up a withdrawal until you answer it.

Does the Casino Take Out Taxes?

Sometimes. A payer has to withhold 24% for federal income tax when the winnings minus the wager come to more than $5,000 and they’re from sweepstakes, wagering pools or lotteries, or from other bets that paid at least 300 times the stake. That regular withholding doesn’t apply to Bingo, Keno or Slots winnings. If you don’t give the casino a correct taxpayer number it can withhold 24% anyway, which is called backup withholding.

State taxes are separate, and other countries have their own rules, so treat this as a starting point and ask a tax professional about anything large. I keep a simple record of deposits, withdrawals and session results through the year, because it is the only way to work out what I actually won.

Can a Casino Refuse to Pay You?

A licensed casino can hold or refuse a withdrawal only for a reason its rules allow, such as a failed ID check, an uncleared bonus or suspected fraud.

It can’t sit on your money because you won. Michigan’s rules say a player must be allowed to withdraw the funds in an account whether the account is open or closed. New Jersey’s regulator says players have the right to receive their funds as expeditiously as possible. If a casino is asking for the same document a third time or has stopped answering, keep every email and chat log, because you will need them. I save the withdrawal confirmation, the cashier screenshot and every reply from support in one folder from the day I ask, so that if it ever goes to a regulator the whole story is already in date order.

Where Can You Complain if a Casino Won’t Pay?

Start with the casino’s own complaints process, then go to whoever licenses it. New Jersey’s Division of Gaming Enforcement takes complaints about its licensed sites through a File a Complaint form. In Ontario, iGaming Ontario reviews a dispute after you’ve tried to resolve it with the operator.

At an offshore or sweepstakes casino there’s less behind you, because no state gaming regulator licenses the site. That makes the choice of casino your main protection. Our best payout casinos list sticks to operators with a record of paying.

Responsible Gambling

Withdrawing your winnings is one of the simplest ways to stay in control of your gambling, because money in your bank can’t be lost on the next spin. I cash out most of any decent win the same day for that reason.

If you find yourself canceling withdrawals to keep playing, or waiting on a payout to cover bills, that’s a sign to stop and talk to someone. In the US you can call or text 1-800-MY-RESET, the National Problem Gambling Helpline. Most licensed casinos also let you set deposit limits or take a break from your account settings, and our Responsible Gambling page lists help services in other countries.
