BetMGM Signs Minnesota Vikings Betting Deal in Canada

BetMGM Becomes the Vikings' Betting Partner North of the Border

BetMGM has signed a multi-year deal to become the official sports betting and online casino partner of the Minnesota Vikings in Canada. The agreement lets the operator use Vikings marks across approved betting, casino and marketing activity in the country, and it landed just ahead of the team’s first game of the NFL season.

It arrives with a product attached. Vikings Big Kick LuckyTap, a quick-play casino game built by Design Works Gaming, is live now and exclusive to BetMGM Casino in Ontario and Alberta. Players win by kicking a football through the goalposts.

Why the Vikings Can Sell in Canada

The Vikings can put their name to a Canadian deal because they hold Canadian marketing rights under the NFL’s Global Markets Program, which the league launched in 2022 to give clubs commercial rights in countries outside the US.

Canada is a crowded market for that program. For 2026 the Vikings share Canadian rights with the Arizona Cardinals, Buffalo Bills, Cincinnati Bengals, Detroit Lions and Seattle Seahawks, and the Las Vegas Raiders added Canada this year too. The Vikings also hold rights in the United Kingdom.

What the Two Sides Said

BetMGM framed it as a content play as much as a sponsorship. “As the home of one of the largest collections of sports-themed casino content in North America, BetMGM is uniquely positioned to combine sports fandom with iGaming,” said Matt Prevost, chief revenue officer at BetMGM.

Martin Nance, the Vikings’ chief marketing officer, said the team is “proud to welcome BetMGM as the team’s official sports betting and online casino partner in Canada” as it works to deepen its connection with Canadian fans. He added that BetMGM’s “commitment to innovation and fan engagement aligns well with our organization.”

Alberta Is the Real Prize

Prevost himself outlined the reasoning behind the company’s ambitions stating that BetMGM is “eager to start football season off strong with another fantastic partnership especially as we expand our reach in Canada to Alberta,” he said.

It is a brand new market for the company. BetMGM launched in Alberta on July 13, 2026, its first international expansion since it entered Ontario in 2022. Alberta and Ontario are now the two Canadian provinces that regulate iGaming, and a Vikings-branded game running in both gives BetMGM something to put in front of fans in each market from week one.

Ontario Shows the Size of the Pie

Ontario is the proof of what a regulated Canadian market can do. The province’s open market took C$82.7 billion in wagers in the year to March 2025, up 31%, and produced C$3.2 billion in gaming revenue. Casino games alone brought in C$2.4 billion of that. Betting produced C$724 million, so casino earned more than three times as much, and that gap goes a long way to explaining why a casino game is the centerpiece of a football deal.

The Ontario Rule That Shapes the Deal

It helps that this partnership is built on logos and a game rather than players. Since February 28, 2024, Ontario’s regulator, the Alcohol and Gaming Commission of Ontario, has banned licensed operators from using athletes, whether active or retired, in iGaming advertising, except to promote responsible gambling.

So the Vikings’ name can appear on a BetMGM ad in Toronto. A Vikings quarterback telling you to place a bet can’t.

The same standards also restrict cartoon figures and symbols that “would likely be expected to appeal to minors,” so even a team-branded game has a line to stay behind. Tom Mungham, the AGCO’s registrar and CEO, said at the time that “children and youth are heavily influenced by the athletes and celebrities they look up to.”

Responsible Play Is Part of the Package

The deal also commits both sides to responsible-play messaging, including educational resources, the GameSense platform and other materials for players who want responsible gambling support.

BetMGM now carries a US team’s name in two Canadian provinces at once, and the product it launched alongside the deal is a casino game, not a bet slip.
