SportPesa South Africa Review: Full Guide for Bettors & Casino Players
As the name implies, SportPesa is a sports-first bookmaker, although it is also able to provide a respectable range of casino games to players who have registered an account, which wasn’t the case when it first launched.
The casino side of SportPesa allows players to enjoy Slots, Instant Win, Scratch Cards, and Crash games, and there are a number of notable iGaming software providers present as well. However, while casino games are available, they are predictably outnumbered by the sports betting options.
Beyond its local sportsbook and casino offering, SportPesa sits within a wider online gambling landscape that includes international online casinos, live casino platforms, and crypto-friendly betting sites. Players interested in alternative formats can explore how live casinos work, learn more about online poker, or compare different online slots experiences across global platforms. For those curious about digital assets, guides covering crypto games and Bitcoin casinos provide useful context on how blockchain-based gambling differs from traditional betting. Understanding these broader options helps bettors place SportPesa in context before committing to a single platform.

Trust & Safety
Licensing & Legal Compliance
SportPesa Casino is licensed and regulated by the Western Cape Gambling & Racing Board, enabling it to offer a wide range of sports betting options, as well as now offering a respectable number of casino games as well. The regional license is a well-respected one, so bettors can rest assured that the casino is a legitimate operator.
Like other real money gambling sites in South Africa, SportPesa is bound by the Financial Intelligence Centre Act (FICA). As a result, players need to prove they have a clean source of income in addition to the standard requirements of being of legal gambling age and physically present in South Africa.
Score: 17/20
Encryption & Security
SportPesa uses standard SSL encryption to protect its website. Although this is a standard measure, its widespread adoption showcases its reliability in protecting users’ data.
The casino’s payment providers also use their own security measures, which makes it even harder for malicious actors to break through and access personal financial information.
Put simply, players should have every confidence that their information is safe.
Score: 20/20
Reputation and Player Reviews
SportPesa may have started off as a sports betting-only casino, but it has since branched out to include casino games, and has earned positive reviews to build a promising reputation among both players and professional review sites.
The ease of navigation and range of sports betting options have come in for particular praise, although players have also noted occasional delays to the casino’s withdrawals, even if they mostly fall within the stated timeframe.
Score: 27/40
General Terms
SportPesa has clearly made a conscious effort to ensure that players fully understand its Terms & Conditions. As well as being 18+, players also know what they are expect to provide to meet FICA requirements, as well as the rules surrounding both casino games and sports betting.

Whats good
- Fully compliant with the necessary legal requirements
- Positive reputation among users

Whats not good

SportPesa ensures that it fully complies with all the necessary legal requirements.
Games
SportPesa offers a respectable array of online casino games from leading iGaming developers like Pragmatic Play, Booming Games, and 3 Oaks Gaming, particularly given the fact that these weren’t available when it first launched.
The sports betting section is where SportPesa really shines, although this is to be expected given the casino’s name.
Slots
The Slots selection is predictably the largest of the available casino games categories, although even then it’s not as big as we have come to expect. Yet despite this, the games are all highly entertaining, and include popular favorites such as Sweet Bonanza 1000, Super Joker, and Gates of Olympus.
The selection also includes special mechanics such as Megaways and Hold & Win, allowing Slots players to diversify their experience. These two particular mechanics are especially ideal for players who are seeking bigger wins, and are prepared to put up with increased risk in order to go after them.
Score: 14/20
Crash Games
SportPesa’s Crash games selection only contains 13 options at the time of writing, but the games offer a break from standard casino games nonetheless.
Simplicity is a big part of what makes these games so popular, as you have to predict when the multiplier will stop climbing. Get it right, and you could walk away with a sizable sum of money. However, you could miss out if you bail too early, and you’ll lose all your money, including your stake, if you don’t cash out before the multiplier stops.
Score: 12/20
Instant Win Games
Although the Instant Win games filter at SportPesa has 6 options, a further 4 Instant Win games can be found under the Scratch Cards filter. We don’t know why they were given their own section, as they should have been included in the Instant Win section as standard.
10 games might not be a lot, but it does manage to contain some enjoyable games like Plinko. There’s even a game of Rock, Paper, Scissors to enjoy, which is something we haven’t seen at many online casinos yet.
Score: 10/20
Sports Betting
Beyond the casino, SportPesa runs an entertaining sportsbook that covers major sports such as Soccer, Basketball, and Tennis, as well as less popular options like Volleyball, Handball, and Table Tennis. As a result, the company is able to cater to a solid range of tastes, even if the selection isn’t as broad as we’ve previously encountered.
Players can choose from a range of betting options both pre-match and in-play. Opening up the in-play market sets the sport to Soccer by default, which isn’t surprising given its immense popularity.

Whats good
- Strong sportsbook
- Well-known games developers
- Solid range of casino games section
Whats not good
- Offering catered more towards sports bettors than casino enthusiasts

SportPesa offers a good range of entertainment to both casino and sports betting enthusiasts, but leans considerably more towards sports betting.
Bonuses & Promotions
SportPesa’s weakest area is clearly its selection of bonuses. As such, if you’re the type of player that prefers regular promotions, it may be a good idea to look elsewhere for now.
Welcome Bonus
Put simply, we weren’t able to make heads or tails or SportPesa’s welcome offer across either its sportsbook or casino games selection.
We were able to find a SportPesa welcome bonus, but it disappeared over the course of our review. So while we were able to determine that a welcome bonus does actually exist, we would strongly recommend that you check the Promotions section when you go to create an account.
Score: 8/30
Ongoing Bonuses
SportPesa’s existing player bonuses encounter a similar problem as the welcome offer. They exist, but there aren’t many of them at all. You might occasionally run into odds boosts and added-value deals, but the range of actual solid Promotions is few and far between.
Score: 8/25
Loyalty Program
SportPesa doesn’t offer a standard VIP Program, and, as we covered earlier, the range of existing player promotions isn’t great either.
Score: 8/25
Wagering Terms and Conditions
Fortunately, SportPesa’s wagering rules are very straightforward, although this is perhaps not surprising given the fact that there aren’t many bonuses at all.
Where bonuses do exist, the wagering requirements are easy to understand, particularly when compared to other big name casinos that lean heavily into their bonus offering to appeal to online casino and sports betting enthusiasts.
This simplicity is a plus, but it doesn’t detract from the fact that the bonus offering at SportPesa is very lacking.

SportPesa does offer some bonuses, but they are very few and far between.
4️⃣ Payments & Banking
Banking at SportPesa covers the basics well, with a mix of cards, EFT, vouchers and eWallet withdrawals. The range of payment methods isn’t as broad as at some bigger local books, but what’s available is still reliable.
Deposit Methods
SportPesa supports a wide range of South African-friendly deposit methods, including:
- Visa/Mastercard via Paygate and Peach Payments
- Instant EFT/Bank Transfer into your SportPesa account
- Voucher based deposits
- EasyLoad and airtime-based options like MTN and Vodacom
As usual, the minimum deposit amount depends on the exact method you choose, but the threshold is usually low, which is especially ideal for newcomers and casual players.
Score: 17/20
Withdrawal Methods
Withdrawals are more limited, but still cover the main local needs:
- Bank Transfers to South African bank accounts
- FNB eWallet withdrawals,
Players can withdraw up to R5000.00 a day. Withdrawals usually take up to 48 hours, and although there are some deviations, most withdrawals fall within this window once FICA verification is complete.
Score: 19/25
Transaction Security and Fairness
The Sportpesa site is fully protected with SSL encryption as standard, and the supported banking methods all have their own protection measures in place to prevent data breaches. This means that players can rest assured that each transaction they make is fully protected.
On top of this, deposit and withdrawal limits are clearly listed, and SportPesa itself doesn’t charge any fees.
Score: 19/25

SportPesa provides a solid enough range of banking options to cater to most users’ needs.
User Experience
Design & Navigation
The SportPesa website is clutter-free, so getting around is no issue at all. You can easily switch between the various sports betting and casino games as you see fit, and your account and banking details are neatly signposted as well.
Granted, there are areas of the website that could be better organized, such as some of the casino filters, but for the most part getting around is seamless, regardless of whether you are on a desktop or mobile device.
Score: 21/25
Mobile App
SportPesa is clearly designed with mobile casino users in mind, as evidenced by the fact that it offers a mobile app to both Android or iOS users that can be downloaded directly from the app store.
What’s more, Android users can also download an APK if they choose, giving them even greater flexibility.
Whichever device you use, the SportPesa app lightweight and work well, so all mobile users should be able to benefit from them.
Score: 16/20
Customer Support
SportPesa’s customer support is reliable and well-structured, with Live Chat and phone support both being available. Although email is also available, the presence of these particular contact options provide a human touch that makes getting any issues resolved a much smoother experience.
The response times are also solid as well, with Live Chat and phone support typically taking a few minutes while email responses can take a couple of hours. This might seem long, but it’s much quicker than we’ve become accustomed to.
Score: 28/30
Responsible Gambling
SportPesa operates under a South African provincial licence, requiring the operator to provide Responsible Gambling tools to players.
However, its range of tools is less developed than leading global brands. There aren’t many options for features like loss limits, temporary self-exclusion, and session reminders, so it’s important to check beforehand that the range of tools is able to satisfy your needs.
Score: 18/25
Final User Experience Score: 83/100
User Experience Summary

Whats good
- Excellent customer support

- Website loads quickly
Whats not good
- Filters are basic
- Android users have to rely on an APK

Final Verdict
SportPesa may have started out as a sports betting-only provider, but it has since expanded into offering casino games, demonstrating its ambition to appeal to as many users as possible. The selection of casino games might not be the most extensive, but it still manages to include leading developers like Pragmatic Play, Booming Games, and 3 Oaks Gaming.
The fact that SportPesa is able to offer a mobile app to both iOS and Android users is a big plus, as it makes the business much more accessible.
Overall, SportPesa is naturally a better fit for sports bettors. Its casino games section is solid, but you won’t find Live Casino games and Table Games like you may have come to expect from an online gambling website that offers both a sportsbook and casino games.
